Requesting Scanner Time
If you would like to propose a study involving MRI, we have outlined below a stepwise procedure that should help to get you started. You will also find a link to download the application and a helpful checklist of requirements to keep you on track. If you have any questions, please contact BRIC technical director at xguo@bsd.uchicago.edu or call 773-834-7612.

    Step 1: The Research Application
The Principal Investigator (PI)/investigator should contact our research center for an application form. Alternately clicking the Forms link can download the MS word version.

    Step 2: Submit Application
The PI/investigator submits the application to our technical director who will then distribute the application forms to the BRIC protocol committee for review.

    Step 3: Application Approval
After the BRIC protocol committee approves the application, our technical director will review the "requirements for scheduling" checklist and then contact the PI/investigator. The PI/investigator and his staff will then be able to register for the next scheduled MR safety meeting.

    Step 4: MR Safety Training
All BRIC users ( PIs, their staff and associated team ) who will access Q-300 3T MR scanner suite must take the MR safety class. The MR safety classes are scheduled on the second Wednesday afternoon of each month, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Please send an email to xguo@bsd.uchicago.edu to register the classes.

Step 5: Meeting with BRIC Staff before the First Scan
Before the first scan of each new MRI study, BRIC will arrange a 15~30 minutes meeting with the PI/investigator. In this meeting, the PI/investigator will have chance to present an overview of the study to all BRIC staff( Co-directors, technical director and the MR techs). If there are any paradigm and technical issues, they may be discussed in the meeting. Additional meetings will be arranged to solve the issues raised in the meeting if necessary.

    Step 6: Scheduling Scan Time
Once all paradigm and technical issuses are solved, the PI/investigator can start to schedule scans with our technologist. Our normal scanning time is Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.. We prefer users to register the scans by using our online schedule system. You should schedule your scans at least 48 hours ahead the scans. The system will not allow you to schedule if the time interval is less than 24 hours. If this case occurs, you can send email to xguo@bsd.uchicago.edu or call BRIC at 773-702-4294 to schedule your scans.
